During the end of May weekend the choir had two major functions – the first, on Saturday, was our Sausage Sizzle at Bunnings and then on Sunday, our May concert at Mountview Uniting Church Hall. Each was a resounding success and both raised much needed funds for the choir. Images illustrating how much members of the choir enjoyed each one can be seen on our Facebook Page.
The Mountview Concert once again aired music that we had first sung at our Annual Concert in 2014. This is music we are now very familiar with both in terms of the lyrics and melody and the choir confidently delivers a more deeply layered and emotionally expressive performance. We had many comments from our audience in that regard, how much they enjoyed the variety, the obvious delight of the choir in the singing and many were impressed with our performing from memory so that we could connect more seamlessly with our conductor and audience.
We are indeed indebted to our conductor and musical director, Lyn Henshall for her astute choice of music and our vocal training. The choir continues to improve under her tutelage.
Jenna Roubos our musical scholar performed her pieces beautifully as did our accompanist, John Atwell as our guest artists. Wendy Gregory did a great job as our compere. There will be several videos up by later this week of Jenna and the choir with links within this blog. Stay posted. We concluded the concert with the lively and joyful piece Sing like there’s no tomorrow by Melbourne composer, Kate Sadler.
The choir now moves into a new phase of learning many new pieces for our next big Gig – our Annual Concert on Saturday, August 15 at Luther College, Croydon. We are also rehearsing Carmina Burana for the combined choirs performance with the Maroondah Orchestra in November this year.
Did I mention we are having a great time! Come and join us and you will too!
Sing like there’s no tomorrow, Sing Joy to everything.
