Our Story
The Maroondah Singers was founded in Mitcham in 1968 by four local residents—Mervyn and May Vagg, George Irvine and John Williams. A public meeting held in the North Blackburn shopping centre on May 31st attracted 45 people, a conductor was found and the choir commenced rehearsal in the Mountview Uniting church hall in Mitcham where it still meets.
The first performance was in December 1968 and since then the choir has performed at a large range of venues and events in Melbourne and throughout Victoria. Participation in the Maroondah Council Carols is a highlight of the choir's calendar. Other recent highlights include singing at the Dallas Brooks Centre, at the citizenship ceremonies on Australia Day and concerts for Rangeview Primary School and the Haywood Retirement Village.
