Vacancy: Musical Director. -Re-advertised

Maroondah Singers is a community based Choir of mixed voices which has entertained audiences all over the State of Victoria for the past 40 years. The purpose of Maroondah Singers is to provide an opportunity for people interested in singing to experience the thrill of singing together as a group, and to give pleasure to community audiences.

The choir rehearses in Mitcham each Monday evening and its choral repertoire is best described as light classical and popular music. A typical concert performance would consist of a varied program of songs from the shows, ballads old and new, classical and modern, secular and sacred.

The position of Musical Director will become vacant at the beginning of 2009 and would appeal to someone interested in continuing the success of the choir and leading it into the future.

The Person We Are Seeking

We are looking for someone who can lead, train, educate and maintain interest and enthusiasm within a group of 60-70 men and women dedicated to the enjoyment of choral singing.

The successful candidate will be expected to have an innate passion for the more popular and lighter types of choral music, as well as possessing a wide knowledge of choral music generally.

Our membership represents the full range of musical literacy from those who have no formal musical training to experienced choristers who can read music. An understanding of voice production and an ability to impart that knowledge during rehearsal together with formal qualifications and experience working with community choirs would be highly desirable.

The ability to act as Master of Ceremonies at concerts would be rated highly, as would an interest and ability to arrange music.

Remuneration is negotiable.
