Maroondah Singers Autumn Concert on Sunday May 21, 2017 was received with great enthusiasm and warmth. The hall was three quarters full and the choir, 39 members on stage, sang a varied and nuanced program that was complimented upon by many of our audience members. They loved the variety. Diction and Dynamics were superb (& I quote!).

Another DD came from the dynamic duo, the duet by the two sisters, Joan and Patrice Marshall, during the Guest Artist spot of the first half. They performed Andalucia (Music by Ernesto Lecuona) & In a Monastery Garden (music by A W Ketelby)where the choir sang the Kyrie Eleison ” Chant of the Monks” chorus.

We were also treated to two number by our Memorial Scholarship winner this year. This was James Emerson’s first public performance with the choir. He sang Dein ist Mein Ganzes Herz (You are my heart’s delight) in the first half and Stars (from Les Miserables) in the second.

John Atwell did more than his usual this concert as in addition to his guest piece (Midnight in Mayfair) he also did a masterful job of MC due to the absence of Ray Kitto.

There are several videos up on our channel which will also appear in our website video gallery – from the second  Drink to me only, My love dwelt in a Northern Land & Stars, this latter piece sung by James.

Our Annual Concert will be at the Auburn Uniting Church, Hawthorn on Sunday September 10th at 2 pm. The program will include pieces from all over the world, contemporary and classic. There will also be a segment from Fiddler on the Roof in addition to other musicals. This is a concert not to be missed especially given that John Atwell, an internationally renowed organist, will perform on the historic organ (this historic organ was built and installed in the church for its opening in 1889 by the Melbourne firm of Fincham and Hobday) in this beautiful heritage church. There will be an interval with refreshments available.
