Maroondah Singers return to rehearsals for 2015 in just a few weeks. Monday 2nd February is the date and if you aren’t already a member, consider coming along and joining in the singing. You may be inspired to join us; many are after attending a rehearsal. We are looking forward to learning lots of great new music.

Talking about rehearsals, our rehearsals venue is the Mountview Uniting Church Hall and that is where we staged our final end of year performance for 2014. The Christmas concert was a great success with standing room only in the Mountview Uniting Church Hall. The songs included many Australian carols from the Wheeler and James songbook, not perhaps as well known as the traditional repertoire but much loved. These are beautiful songs with quintessential Australian lyrics so they place us very much at home,in the bush, in sun burnt paddocks, in moist shaded tree ferns gullies – we celebrate Christmas in the hot dry summer.

Our concert contrasted this Aussie reality with that of the wintery cold of the Northern Hemisphere, the source and realm of many of the other songs in the concert – Sleigh Ride, I’m dreaming of a white Christmas by the choir and, by our guest artist Stephen Coutts, Winter Wonderland. The audience got to participate regularly and the concert concluded with our favourite song for the year and our prayer for peace Hymn of Peace by Mary McDonald, which is now the featured video on our home page. In between times we also got the chance to sing a Christmas favourite O Holy Night, the gospel version no less!

We concluded with a wonderful afternoon tea provided by the choir and enjoyed greatly by our audience. Thank you to all our family and friends who have attended our performances this year. We also hope you enjoyed our new look, all black with scarfs and ties adapted to the particular season. The reds and greens of Christmas were particularly striking.

We hope to see you this year for more great music and fun!
