At our recent AGM Renate Hartley was elected to the top spot, President of the Maroondah Singers Community Choir. Congratulations Renate!

Renate has been in the choir for 26 years and during that time has served the choir well in several roles on the committee including Vice-President and secretary. In fact Renate vacated the secretary position to move to President and we now have a new secretary, Ann Fortune.

The committee has also had some changes to membership which will help to keep debate lively and topical. The outgoing president, Ally Openshaw gave a most eloquent and at times, lyrical speech which comprehensively covered many aspects of the choir including management, choral events throughout the year, the musical team, the new web site and her ideas for the future. She expressed great appreciation of the efforts of the choir members and the committee in bringing about another successful and satisfying year for the Maroondah Singers. Parts of her speech will be presented in further posts on this blog.

Lyn Henshall, our musical director also spoke about the musical repertoire – we will have some new beautiful choral music to learn for our annual concert .  She also spoke about our Scholarship Singer program where a different approach will be taken for 2014 where instead of one single singer, three talented applicants will be the guest soloists at our different concerts throughout the year.  We will have a tenor, Michael Petruccelli, a lyric mezzo, Lotti Betts-Dean and a baritone/tenor, Stephen Coutts – a veritable cornucopia of vocal talent – a feast for the choir and audiences alike. More about them will appear in time on this site with their biographies.
