The Maroondah Singers next public concert will be at our rehearsal venue at Mountview Uniting Church, Mitcham on Sunday July 27th, at 2 pm . Our rehearsal hall has very bright acoustics and so performing in this venue which is also so familiar to us, is one of the highlights of our year.
This concert is one of our major fundraisers for the year . Those previously held in the hall have proved to be enormously popular, standing room only. We have it on good authority that the attraction is also the music not just the delicious afternoon tea offered, all home baked, an amazing array of sandwiches, cakes, slices & biscuits to go with the beverages also provided. The musical program spans the ages and styles – we have songs from the forties and Broadway shows, medleys from Showboat and Les Miserables; there is a section of songs to commemorate the anniversary of WW1 e.g The Soldier’s Farewell, And the Band played Waltzing Matilda, In Flanders Fields; there are some spirituals and sacred pieces as well as some popular folk songs such as Gentle Annie and Amazing Grace. Our guest artists, Dr. John Atwell (pianist and organist) and Stephen Coutts (baritone & tenor) always thrill our audiences with numbers both popular and classical which appeal to a broad range of tastes.
We heartily recommend this concert to all of our followers out there. It will enliven your Sunday afternoon and give great pleasure to the senses, aural, visual and gustatory!
