The Maroondah Singers are delighted to announce that we have a new concert at Wonthaggi on Sunday the 19th April.

This concert will be staged in the Wonthaggi Union Community Arts Centre and will feature a wide variety of music.  Of particular note, in this 100th anniversary year of World War I, are songs that commemorate WWI such as the poignant and moving And the Band Played Waltzing Matilda, words and music by Eric Bogle, and the stirring, beautifully poetic, In Flanders Fields – words by Dr John McCrae and music by John Jacobson and Roger Emerson. In 15 short lines Dr John McCrae captures the courage, valor, awe and stark reality of war.

We will also have our new vocal Scholar performing.  This year’s recipient of the award will soon be announced.

Dr John Atwell, our highly accomplished and well known accompanist will also be one of our guest artists.

We are thrilled that the concert will also feature Dorothy Baker, affectionately known as Australia’s Vera Lynn.  She is a well know entertainer and has featured for over five decades on radio, television and in concert Halls.  We are enjoying re-visiting many of our old favourites in rehearsals and are pleased to have the opportunity to perform pieces that had their first outing with us at our Annual Concert in 2014.

More details about the music and a video will be posted soon. Friends and family are most welcome to accompany us to this concert.  It will be our first for the year and we are looking forward to it.
