Inspiring and triumphant, stunning and glorious – these are just some of the descriptions of Mendelssohn’s oratorio Elijah – and on Sunday November 26 the Maroondah Singers have the pleasure of presenting the classic oratorio along with three choirs and the Maroondah Symphony orchestra. The Maroondah Symphony, under the baton of Willem van der Vis, are hosting the Elijah performance which also features the Diamond Valley Singers, Yarra Valley Singers and Singularity at the Yarra Valley Secondary College’s George Wood Performing Arts Centre, Kalinda Road, Ringwood (entry Kalinda Road).
The orchestra and choirs have rehearsed together and apart and the sound will be truly thrilling – and all emotions will be on display – in what is described as the second most popular oratorio behind Messiah. They will be complemented by an exciting group of soloists who include: Elijah Michael Lampard who has performed widely across Australia and overseas in operas, oratorios and many recitals; Soprano Joanna Cole who has performed many times for Opera Australia and in concerts and recitals and other operatic roles in Australia and the UK; Alto: Shakira Dugan, 2017 Opera Scholar of the Year finalist and developing artist for Victorian Opera; and Tenor Peter Mander, performed extensively with Victorian Opera and in opera, operetta and musicals, plus concerts and Lieder recitals in Germany.
The Grand Choral Concert starts at 2.30pm and tickets are Adult $25, Concession $20 and Children under 16 free, online or at the door. Enquiries: Elaine 0418 620 479.
